A New Sigma in Town: Robert Pattinson Reportedly Playing a Christian Bale Patrick Bateman-Like Character in New Movie With Anchorman Director

Robert Pattinson seems to be following in on Christian Bale’s filmography. After starring in Matt Reeves’ The Batman, mirroring Bale’s iconic role in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Trilogy. However, the actor might be stepping up his Bale-game, because the next character to be included in the Twilight star’s filmography takes heavy inspiration from another Bale classic: Patrick Bateman.

Pattinson’s next big film has Adam McKay at its head, and it calls for the acting chops to emulate a certain character from Mary Harron’s American Psycho. Average Build, Average Height is McKay’s latest black comedy, set to launch on Netflix.

In Average Height, Average Build Robert Pattinson plays the role of Stephen Lewis Deesner, a serial killer who employees lobbying for laws to be changed, to allow him to go scot-free of murder charges for crimes he has committed. Joining The Batman alum is Lois Lane from Man of Steel, Amy Adams. Adams plays Michele Struck, the lobbyist who helps out Pattinson’s Stephen with his efforts to change the law to benefit his murder spree.

Also rounding up the cast is Captain America: Civil War actor Robert Downey Jr., who plays a cop hot on Deesner’s tail, suspicious of the crimes that he is committing. Also rounding out the cast is Forest Whitaker as another serial killer, and Danielle Deadwyler as a young reporter.

Average Height, Average Build was slated to start production in early 2023. However, the writer’s strikes, and now the ongoing actors’ strikes, have pushed the project to a later date. While late 2024 would have been the estimated time for the movie to be made available on Netflix, the current trajectory of events suggests the film will only see the light of day in 2025 at the earliest.

McKay’s previous tumble with the streaming service yielded the hilariously popular Don’t Look Up, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Leonardo DiCaprio, Cate Blanchett, Meryl Streep, and Timothy Chalamet. A similarly dark and humourous take on governance with a focus on science and scientific data, McKay has proven himself to handle such subject matter with remarkable maturity and wit. While the production of the project is yet to be started, it is safe to assume that it is in brilliant hands with McKay.
