Earlier this summer Rivera went missing during a boat trip with her young son at Lake Piru in California, and her body was recovered a few days later. The cause of death was drowning, though she was apparently able to get her son back onto the boat, where he was found safe. “We are so grateful for the outpouring of love and prayers for Naya, Josey, and our family over the past week,” her family said in a statement at the time. “While we grieve the loss of our beautiful legend, we are blessed to honor her everlasting legacy and magnetic spirit. Naya was an amazing talent, but was an even greater person, mother, daughter, and sister…Heaven gained our sassy angel.”
Riley shared her own heartbreak on Instagram. “My favorite duet partner. I love you. I miss you. I don’t have words right now, just lots of feelings,” she wrote. “Rest In Peace Angel, and know that your family will never have to worry about anything.”
