Benoit Paire looks like being back to form and serious regarding tennis for a change. The Frenchman has won back to back matches after what seems like an age. When at his free-flowing best, he is a joy to watch with his luxurious nature of play. He comes into the match after brushing aside Jozef Kovalik in the Round of 32, before being handed a walkover in the Round of 16 after his opponent Tallon Griekspoor retired midway through the match, in which Benoit had taken the first set.
22-year-old Norwegian Casper Ruud has been incredibly consistent on Clay surfaces of late. He comes into the match having won the Swedish Open, beating Argentine Federico Coria in the final. He was seeded number 1 and lived up to the seeding and is looking to establish himself as the future King of Clay. He didn’t however, have a great Wimbledon, crashing out in the first round to Australian Jordan Thompson in a 5 set thriller.
