wow, bumping an 8-year old thread, but searching here and elsewhere online for "barn red" colors, I discovered Encycolorpedia.com, which lists name brands, color matches, color analyses, and lots more that I don't understand.
Here is the page for example for Vallejo's "carmine red," which a number of different sources identified as one possible contender for a nice "barn red":
