A sign posted in the window of a Japanese restaurant in Charlotte, N.C. has stirred up a social media conversation.
It clearly states the Kabuto Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar will not welcome certain guests. The sign reads:
"Take your hoodie down.
Finish your phone conversation.
Marijuana smell not allowed.
We will be glad to assist you."
Many people have responded by saying the sign is racist, and will deter people from visiting the city.
Owner Martin Tanaka told NBC Charlotte the sign has been in the window for three years.
He said it's about respect, not discrimination, and estimates 98 percent of feedback has been positive.
