Cheri Shores was born and raised in Northern Virginia, where her parents named her after the Stevie Wonder song "My Cherie Amour," which is about a girl who loves someone. Her creativity and artistic flair were evident from a young age, and she pursued her passion for jewelry making by working as a jewelry artist at Christian Bernard in Lynnhaven Mall.
It was around 1994 that Cheri met Lance, who was a military kid born at Marine Corps Camp Lejeune. At that time, Lance was working as a bartender at the Oceanfront, and the two became friends. Lance asked Cheri out, but didn't show up. He tried again, and this time he didn't back out. They got married in 2002 and continued to build their lives together.

The Birth of Citrus
Lance was a well-known bartender in the area, and a friend of his father bought him the 5150 on Shore Drive bar in Norfolk. With Cheri's help, the bar became a popular spot, but they were always looking for something more. They saw the potential in a building that used to be a boat repair shop on Virginia Beach's West Great Neck Road and decided to take a chance.
In 2006, they opened Citrus, a bright and vibrant breakfast and lunch spot with a menu that reflected Cheri's love of fresh and healthy ingredients. The name "Citrus" was chosen to evoke thoughts of something new and different. It also reminded the Shoreses of the fruit trees they had seen on their travels to the Caribbean, Europe, and Rome.
