Andrey Rublev survives a tough battle with Fabio Fognini in the second round to start his campaign in Cincinnati as he had a first-round bye. The Russian won the match 6-7(7), 7-6(3), 6-2 to register a good win after he lost in his first match in Montreal last week losing to Daniel Evans in straight-sets despite coming from a semi-final finish in Washington.

Taylor Fritz comes through another tough opponent with rather ease as he defeated the in-form Australian Nick Kyrgios 6-3, 6-2 in the second round. Having defeated Sebastian Baez 6-1, 6-1 earlier, the American is high on confidence. He last played in Montreal and similar to Rublev, lost to Evans, but in the third round, his second consecutive defeat to the Brit who also defeated Fritz in the third round in Washington.
