Magic Johnson became the revival reason for another NBA season on his entrance into the league. Not everybody understood young Earvin and they all claimed he was too soft for the team before joining the Los Angeles Lakers and proving everybody. He was one of the taller point guards in the league but worked very efficiently.
The NBA Hall of Famer was a very skilled passer and the league praised him for this ability. He won several championships throughout the 80s and made a part of insane rivalries with the Boston Celtics. He was a certified superstar that also helped the famous USA Dream Team win the Olympic gold.
Magic Johnson admits fatal truth behind HIV Diagnosis
As Magic Johnson entered stardom, he got hit with the worst news about his health’s condition. In 1991, he announced to the entire world that he was diagnosed with HIV, a disease which was incurable at that time. For Johnson, he was more towards the critical stages of the disease and medical experts even warned him about death.
In his recent documentary series “They Call Me Magic” the former Lakers star expressed how he felt during the diagnosis period and how it had changed his life for good. After finding out about his illness, he retired in 1991 in hopes to sort everything out. Despite not having the proper treatment for his level of illness, the existing medication was enough to keep the disease under control.
Johnson revealed in his series that he contemplating killing himself because of how depressed he was and what the doctors had told him. He highlighted a conversation he had with his agent Lon Rosen. “I was telling him, if anything happens, you make sure you take care of my family. I guess I gotta stop playing basketball,” Magic said.
Rosen had revealed that Johnson wanted to take his life. Magic continued, “I thought I was facing death, I didn’t sleep. I was just thinking about, Is this the last time her [Cookie] is going to be in my arms?” His brother Andre said that the doctors asked the Johnson gathering to prepare for the worse and spend as much time with him as possible.
