The latest entry in the Diablo series just released its latest update. The massive update titled Patch 1.2 for Diablo 4 releases on October 17, 2023, and Season 2 is titled Season of Blood. The Patch Notes for the update went live and contain a whopping 10,000 words! This is part of Blizzard’s strategy to revive the RPG and back up the player count.
The number of changes showcases the game studio’s willingness to back up the game and retain players. The first season of the game wasn’t particularly well received by fans. That was partly due to the amount of grinding the game required to level up.
Diablo 4 Patch 1.2 Patch Notes and Major Changes
The entire changelog published by Blizzard for Diablo 4 is spread across seven sections. It was released on October 10, 2023. One can refer to the whole changelog for the exhaustive list of updates, changes, bug fixes, and quality-of-life updates.

- A streamer mode has been introduced, hiding personal information like the player’s Battle.net ID and character name. This is done to preserve the streamer’s identity. Accessibility options like more cursors with better contrast will be added. An audio cue is added to signal when a player is near a traversal (i.e., a ladder or a broken bridge to jump over).
- Better organization for the Stash and the Inventory, with better filters, will also be added to the game. Items can now be marked as Favourite. This prevents items from being sold or salvaged. Items in the Stash can be characterized as Junk or Favourite. Items marked as Junk can be sold using the Sell All Junk option.
- The sorting of normal Affixes on items has been made to improve and be more consistent.
Apart from UI and Accessibility options, some significant changes were also included in the update. These include changes related to gems, mounts, and hardcore deaths. The major highlights of the changes can be found below:
- Gems will no longer take up valuable space in the character’s backpack. But they can also no longer be applied while adventuring. Diablo 4 gems are now going to drop from enemies as gem fragments. They will now be stored in the Materials tab and must be taken to the Jeweller to be worked on.
- Mounts will now have a significant buff in Diablo 4 and be more responsive and intelligent. The base movement speed of horses has been increased by 14%, and momentum from the Spur will also last 50% longer. Using spurs now also allows your mount to break through barricades.
- Players who want to experience the game in Hardcore mode will have a better chance to escape death from disconnect. For this to occur, however, the player must have The Scroll of Escape in their Inventory. The scroll will be used automatically to teleport to a safe location as soon as the connection is re-established.
Among many other changes added to Diablo 4 added with Patch 1.2. Dungeons are now much more interesting as they will be procedurally generated to keep them fresh. This is complemented by adding Endcaps to prevent unnecessary and tedious backtracking. With Patch 1.2, five new world bosses are added to the game.

Fans Express Mixed Reactions on Diablo 4 Changes Coming With Season 2 and Patch 1.2
Despite the many changes coming to Diablo 4, fans believe they are still insufficient. For example, the loot system in Diablo 4 has mixed opinions from fans. That can be attributed to the vast number of affixes in the game and the mediocre crafting system. The thrill, surprise, shock, and awe once received from discovering a scarce item is nerfed.
The Sorcerer class in Diablo 4, which is looked down upon by players, was encouraged in this update. It will enjoy Damage Boosts as well as different abilities.
Fans are also not impressed that most of these issues were flagged relatively early and still took so long to fix. These are primarily issues with the game’s damaged reception system. Diablo 4 has had a bumpy road to deal with, and Patch 1.2 comes out in a month, which is already rife with seemingly Blockbuster releases. It will be interesting to see if Diablo 4 can recreate the magic and retain its excitement.
