The recent rumors of Xbox taking their exclusives to third party platforms have been the most discussed topic in the gaming community for about a week now, and with the recent official release of the Xbox Podcast, the possibility of a Hi-Fi Rush sequel feels like it’s inevitable.
Some of Phil Spencer’s wording on the topic of the games coming to third party platforms hints at a potential sequel to the beloved rhythm game. Releasing a little over a year ago, the game quickly became an Xbox staple, and got incredibly popular for its incredible music-integrated gameplay, engaging story, and gorgeous visuals.
Xbox Hints at Potential Sequel to the Beloved Rhythm Game
On the official Xbox podcast, first and foremost, Xbox CEO Phil Spencer talked about the four games that would be making their way to other platforms. All of these games are at least over a year old. Two of them will be “community-driven,” while the other two are smaller games that were never meant to be de facto platform exclusives but have earned their fair share of fanfare and have completed their lives on Xbox and PC.

If we look closely, Hi-Fi Rush fits all of the aforementioned traits that Phil Spencer described. So, it’s pretty much confirmed that the game is coming over to PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. But what stood out was Spencer’s following statement regarding the future of those smaller franchises:
… allowing us to invest in maybe future iterations of those, so sequels to those, or just other games like that in our portfolio.
It seems that this all but confirms that a sequel is planned, in at least some way, shape, or form. Though practically nothing is known at the time about a sequel, considering the success of the indie gem, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to say that another release is imminent.
So, Could a Sequel Actually Be in Development?
As previously mentioned, there is nothing currently known about a potential sequel, but developer Tango Gameworks hasn’t announced anything else that the studio is working on and considering the latest plan of Xbox to bring games to platforms like PlayStation, right now, the studio is probably hard at work at the port.

But again, this doesn’t confirm or deny that a sequel is in development. But Phil Spencer’s specific choice of wording feels like it’s dropping a massive hint to fans of the original game. And judging from the overall success of it, it feels like a sequel is all but inevitable.
