Tolling is in place on two Interstate-65 bridges and new Lewis and Clark Bridge over the Ohio River heading into Kentucky.
LOUISVILLE, Kentucky (WTHR) - Spring breakers should be prepared to pay new tolls on three bridges as they drive south over the Ohio River.
All-electronic tolling started in late December on the two I-65 bridges connecting downtown Louisville and southern Indiana - the new Abraham Lincoln Bridge and the updated John F. Kennedy Memorial Bridge. The new Lewis and Clark Bridge connecting the Gene Snyder Freeway in Prospect, Kentucky with State Road 265 in Utica on the Indiana side is also a toll bridge.
Drivers do not have to stop or even slow down to feed coin machines similar to other toll plazas. Their license plates are photographed and they receive a bill in the mail. Toll rates range from $2-$12, depending on the size of vehicle.
Drivers will have to pay $2 to cross a tolled bridge in a passenger vehicle if they register for a prepaid account and transponder, and $4 to cross a tolled bridge without an account and transponder. Drivers can open a new account online through RiverLink.
The first RiverLink invoice includes only tolls owed. Bills can be paid online, by mail, by phone or in person at a RiverLink customer service center.
Drivers who do not pay their tolls on time will be charged late fees, and may face restrictions on vehicle registration until tolls and penalties are settled.
If you already have an E-ZPass transponder, including the I-PASS in Illinois or the Indiana Toll Road E-ZPass, you are already registered in the RiverLink system.
To buy a RiverLink E-ZPass transponder that's good in 16 states, the cost is $15 per transponder. The device mounts inside your windshield, but can move to any vehicle registered to the same single E-ZPass account.
