The Eagles on Sunday claimed quarterback Stephen Morris off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Morris (6-2/218) was signed by the Jags as an rookie free agent following the 2014 NFL draft. He spent last season on the Jaguars' practice squad and was cut on Friday.
The 23-year-old played college football at the University of Miami, throwing for 7,896 yards, 49 touchdowns and 30 interceptions over his four-year career. He also rushed for 54 yards and three scores. He played for Eagles offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland in 2010 when Stoutland was the interim head coach at Miami.
Morris started Jacksonville's preseason finale, completing 16 of 25 passes for 160 yards and a touchdown in a 17-16 win over the Washington Redskins on Thursday.
With the addition of Morris, who is behind Sam Bradford and Mark Sanchez on the depth chart, the Eagles' roster now stands at the maximum capacity of 53 players.
The team cut quarterback Tim Tebow and 21 others Saturday to reduce its roster to 52 players. Head coach Chip Kelly said he planned to add another QB after taking a look at the waiver wire.
Kelly also noted that on game days the Eagles dress only two quarterbacks, so it's likely Morris will be inactive when the team opens its season against the Atlanta Falcons next Monday night.
