Eimantas Stanionis vs Vergil Ortiz Jr POSTPONED: Welterweight clash off again with Floyd Schofield vs Haskell Rhodes to headline

Eimantas Stanionis and Vergil Ortiz Jr's welterweight clash has been postponed again after Ortiz pulled out due to health reasons.

The pair were meant to meet earlier this year, but the bout was cancelled twice due to both men ending up in hospital.

What has been said?

Stanionis vs Ortiz was initially meant to take place earlier this year but had to be postponed twice due to Ortiz being ill and Stanionis undergoing surgery.

The American was hospitalised with the blood disorder condition rhabdomyolysis and long COVID.

But in a statement Ortiz Jr's promoters Golden Boy confirmed their man wouldn't be competing.

It read: "Nothing is more important than the safety of our fighters, and we of course support Vergil's decision 100 per cent.

"This unfortunate event does however open the door for one of Golden Boy's top prospects, Floyd Schofield, to accelerate his profile by headlining in his home state of Texas.

"We will, as always, put on a high-action card from top to bottom on July 8 and look forward to showcasing all of our fighters both in San Antonio and on DAZN."
