Florida executes serial killer Oscar Ray Bolin Jr.

The 53-year-old died by lethal injection at 10:16 Thursday night at Florida State Prison in Starke.

The families of three Bay area murder victims have been waiting nearly 30 years for justice that wait is now over with the execution of notorious killer Oscar Ray Bolin.

The 53-year-old died by lethal injection at 10:16 Thursday night at Florida State Prison in Starke.

A last-ditch effort by his defense attorney appealing to the Supreme Court to halt the execution delayed it four hours, but in the end the high court denied the request.

Bolin was convicted of abducting three young women from local parking lots, just months apart in 1986 and stabbing them to death.

Bolin didn't have any final words, insisting all along he was innocent.

The victims' moms say this finally gives them some peace.

"As far as possibly forgiving Oscar Bolin for the deliberate and cruel murder of my daughter it will never happen 10 because Oscar Bolin never excepted responsibility for Heinous acts," says Kathleen Reeves, Teri Lynn Matthews' Mother.

"We all miss Stephanie every day.  I can't have her back, but I'll have sweet memories," says Donna Whitmer, Stephanie Collins' Mother.

Execution opponents prayed outside of the prison.

Bolin's attorney says his client had come to terms with dying, but calls Bolin's execution barbaric.  "He was able to love and be loved.  He was strapped on a gurney to be injected with poison, and murdered and killed.  I think that's disgusting," says Bolin's attorney, Bjorn Brunvand.

Bolin spent his final day meeting with his spiritual advisor and his wife, Rosalie Bolin, who he married while on death row.
