A Georgia prisoner died of apparent suicide after recently being sentenced to death for the killings of two corrections officers during an escape attempt five years ago, officers said.
Ricky Dubose, 29, was found by guards unresponsive in his prison cell at the Georgia and Classification Prison in Jackson on Sunday around 4.45 p.m., according to a Department of Corrections news release.
A medical response team arrived at the scene, but were too late. Dubose was declared dead by the coroner at 5.56 p.m.

A nationwide search that included electronic billboards and photographs of the inmates went underway after the escape. The FBI offered a $130,000 reward for information leading to their arrest. Dubose and Rowe were found days later in Tennessee.
Prior to his death, Dubose was sentenced to death on June 16 for the murder of Sgt. Christopher Monica and Sgt. Curtis Billue during an escape mission.
Dubose and his accomplice, Donnie Rowe, were in transit to another prison when they killed the two guards and escaped from the bus southeast of Atlanta, on June 13, 2017.
Dubose and Rowe slipped out of their handcuffs and got through the unlocked gate of the front of the bus.
Prosecutors accused Dubose of grabbing the gun of one of the officers and shooting one guard, and then the driver, both in the head.
