Giddyup, Ladies: You Need Riding Boots for Fall (Caution, Horse Puns Ahead)

Recently, I had the good fortune to attend the Hampton Classic horse show, which is a weeklong extravaganza of equestrian events that also draws its fair share of celebrities and socialites, from Sofia Vergara and Christie Brinkley to Mayor Bloomberg and Jon Bon Jovi. Though the spectators tend to be in summer society wear (think floaty frocks and big hats), it was the competitors' style that really had me chomping at the bit () for fall weather—so many sharp blazers, perfect pants, and, of course, those boots! All of the competitors, male and female, proved how universally flattering the equestrian look can be, and I left all in a lather () about getting myself a pair of leg-lengthening riding boots. Because in case Kendall didn't convince you with some excellent math and gorgeous celeb street style, here's another piece of evidence: Seriously, how gorgeous does Mary-Kate Olsen look on her prize-winning horse (aptly named Marvelous) here? Something about that high Spanish top cut makes even the ultra-tiny Olsen look leggy.

Why horse around (*) with riding boots, you ask? Well, aside from channeling that posh Hermes-at-the-country-estate vibe, Danica's already told you about what high heels do to your feet, so a luxe pair of flat boots will be music to your arches, and high boots are all the rage. Plus, they'll look dreamy with fall's sassy plaids and menswear-inspired trends.
