Guide for Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon

Controls

They are like your typical first-person shooter controls, but here is a photo for reference.

Tips

  • You may throw hearts into garrisons and have the blood dragons help you liberate them.
  • Weapon attachments are earned by killing enemies, gathering collectibles, and doing side missions so one of the last achievements you will get is for buying all attachments since you pretty much have to complete the entire game before you will have them all unlocked.
  • Headshots/weakpoints on enemies are where you want to aim.
  • Free ammo trick just by swapping your weapon out with another one in the vending machine, backing out of it, then going back in to grab the weapon again.
  • You can buy collectible maps for $500 each, in the respective regions of the map from liberated garrisons.
  • Completing the story first gets you an OP weapon (the killstar) that you can use to clear the garrisons and farm dragons with.
  • After level 11, any takedowns automatically loot the enemy for you, which is super helpful for getting money while you play through the story if you are stealthy.

Animals

There is an achievement tied to killing almost every animal found in the game. You will come across some naturally in missions, but others you should be on the look out for during your playthrough. The map does a good job at indicating the correct area to find an animal, except for the neon snakes and blood dragons. The blood dragons will be found near garrisons and you will see a large health bar at the top of the screen.

You should keep an eye out on these animals while you play through the story because there is not a specific mission that will have one of these for you to directly kill.

These are the animals that have a mission tied directly to them.

Blood Dragons

Blood Dragons are a large part of this game. They can be rather hard to take down at the beginning of the game, so I suggest waiting to grind out the 25 you need for an achievement, after you have completed the game and have the OP weapon. There are some tips that can help you understand these creatures better though.

Mood Status

Their mood status is depicted by the color of their skin.

  • Green means they are passive and you may lure them around with the use of cyber hearts
  • Yellow means they are aggravated and on alert. Be very careful in this state because they can detect you or Omega forces faster. You may still use cyber hearts to lure them around.
  • Red means they are aggressive and randomly attacking everything in its surroundings. It has (2) different attacks: long range and short range.
    • Long range - The Blood Dragon can shoot a high damage laser beam from its eyes from a distance. When you see it stand up on its hind legs and look at you, be prepared to run away from the area so you don't get hit by the beam.
    • Short range - The Blood Dragon has short range attacks like slashing and biting. These also deal heavy damage, but are harder to dodge. Try to keep your distance from the Blood Dragons. Cyber hearts can be used to briefly distract them, but won't last long if there are still threats in the area.

Weakness

The Blood Dragons do have a weakness that will help you defeat them faster. There is a bright pink area in the center of their chest that you should target for maximum damage to them. I found it easier to target this when they stood up on their back legs and were getting ready to shoot their laser at me. The Killstar and Terror 4000 are fantastic choices to shoot the Blood Dragon with. It takes mere seconds to down one if you can hit their weak spot consistently. Another good option for damage is to use explosive bullets on the Kobracon (sniper).

Enemies

There is an achievement tied to killing all enemies with a headshot. There is some debate whether the elites count or not toward this achievement, but I recommend going for headshots anyways because you will kill the enemies faster anyways. You can shoot the heavys in the back of the head to kill them easier without having to deal with the helmet. My achievement popped as soon as I killed a Running Dead in Mission 6. If you miss a headshot, it should be okay because after you complete "I Don't Deal With Psychos, I Put Them Down", you can find them campsites or ancient ruins.
