Guide for Halo: The Master Chief Collection

Halo 2 - Miscellaneous and Multiplayer Achievements

I felt like this one deserved it's own page because unlike Halo: CE, Halo 3, and Halo 4, this title's misc/multi list is rather large and I didn't want to bog down the already cumbersome Halo 2 campaign page with all of these, especially since a large number of them are self-explanatory. Anything that does not specifically mention matchmaking can be done in customs.

A nod to the release date for the original Halo 2, play a game of H2A multiplayer on the 9th of any given month. I foresee multitudes unlocking this one on Dec9th.

Once again we move onto playlists, and once again barring any masochistic tendencies, you’ll want to avoid the LASO playlist(s) when going for these two achievements, although of course the LASO playlist counts as one of the three you need if you'd rather do that. These are straightforward enough.

A rather rudimentary achievement, and honestly an unnecessary one since it can be done on Easy/Normal, which is a breeze to rush through without dying. At any rate, complete any level of the campaign without dying for this one. Cairo Station is the shortest one, although perhaps not necessarily the easiest.

Straight-forward enough, simply load up a co-op game on any level on Heroic or higher, activate the Masterblaster skull (one of the new ones for Halo 2 Anniversary), and complete the level.

The Streaking skull is another new one for Halo 2 Anniversary, and leaves you without your precious regenerating shields. Feeling quite naked without them, aren’t we? If you take your time and don’t ‘put yourself out there’ too much when enemies are around, you should be fine, especially if playing on Heroic. Remember that ONLY the Streaking skull can be turned on, so don’t try to get away with anything by turning on one of the easy-mode skulls. You can, however, do this in co-op and have your buddy rush forward and kill enemies. If he dies, he’ll just respawn on you, allowing you to continue on with the level.

For Silent but Deadly, simply go anywhere in the game where you have a checkpoint near an enemy with their back to you. Load that checkpoint, punch the enemy in the back, then revert to last checkpoint. You can also snipe enemies. You just have to kill 7 enemies in a row without being spotted. I did this on the level Metropolis at the first Jackal sniper that you come to after you come out of the tunnel from the beginning of the level, since his back was to me.

The next five achievements can be seen in action in this video:

Siege of Ivory Tower Egg - You’ll want to load up a game on Ivory Tower in multiplayer. Head over to the elevator lift that goes between the 3 floors. At the bottom, you’ll see a metal garage-door looking shutter. Stand in front of this until the music starts and the achievement unlocks. It may take a while, so be patient. Here’s a video showing this in ‘action’. The song is not titled Siege of Ivory Tower. It is the same Siege of Madrigal that plays for the Halo: CE Easter Egg.

Why So Serious: Halo 2: View the smiling face in the classic multiplayer map Coagulation. – Load up Coagulation in Halo 2 classic MP. Head to the three rocks in front of Red base where the shotgun spawns. On the inside aspect of one of the 3 rocks there is a clownish-looking face. You’ll probably get this one by accident playing on this map if you don’t go looking for it.

Sid Graffiti: Halo 2: Spot the Sid graffiti on the walls of Coagulation in classic multiplayer. – On Coagulation in Halo 2 classic, head into the cave system where the overshield spawns. Inside, head to the window above where the overshield spawns that looks down onto the overshield and turn to your left to see on the wall the message ‘Not Sid was here’.

Why Am I Here?: Halo 2: View this hidden message on the classic Beaver Creek map. – Load up Beaver Creek in classic multiplayer. Head up the sniper rifle hill that the rock arch with the rocket launcher does NOT curve up to. Jump up onto the rock ledge above you and look at the wall to see ‘why am I here?’ written on it faintly.

Animal Habitat: Halo 2: Spot the hippo on the walls of Headlong in classic multiplayer. - Inside the building where you arm the bomb in single-bomb assault, there are "hippos" that look like a 2-year old drew them in various tiles on the yellow wall

Destination Vacation: Halo 2: View one of the seasonal signs on Zanzibar in classic multiplayer. – Play Halo 2 classic multiplayer on Zanzibar on a Holiday (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc) and head to the beach. You should see a sign in the water that changes based on the system clock. For instance the one on Christmas day says ‘This soffish. Do not eat.’ This should be doable offline by changing your clock, although the achievement won’t unlock until the next time you sign back in to Xbox Live.

Self Explanatory Multiplayer Achievements

The following achievements are self-explantatory. Unless they specifically mention ‘matchmaking’, they are obtainable in customs games, even local split-screen. All of these must be done in the Halo 2 Anniversary multiplayer on one of the six re-made maps. I would suggest just playing for fun as you’ve gotta get 500 wins anyway (although you can even boost the 500 wins by yourself in customs). Maybe take a look at these a week or two after launch and see which ones you’re missing so you can go focus on them, but a lot will come without much thought.

You can set up a 'boosting' game type in customs with increased player movement speed, no shields, 500% normal damage, etc to make these go faster.

For Invaders Repelled you must be inside the hill and kill 5 people that are outside the hill. Killing people that are contesting it doesn't count as you must be in control of the hill.

Grab the ball, pass to a teammate with Rt, then get it back and go score it. At some point kill someone on the other team.

  • Triple Threat

Halo 2A MP: In Ricochet, pass once, score once and kill at least one enemy in the same match.

    Triple Threat

If doing this in customs just grab the bomb and go score it. Easy.

  • Bombing Run

Halo 2A MP: In Assault, take, plant and score from the bomb spawn without dying or dropping it.

    Bombing Run

Fusion coils are the glowing boxes that explode when shot. Damage the opponent first with a quick punch to the face then shoot a nearby coil.

For counter sniped have your 2nd controller or patner zoom in on you with a BR, sniper, etc. Then just kill them with a sniper rifle and you're done.

Load up a match of territories in customs, cap all three, and sit there for a bit to unlock this one.

Next up load Juggernaut and sit still while the big man himself for a bit without dying and this one will pop.

For Top Gungoose I set up a match on Bloodline with all Gungoose vehicles on map. I positioned a 2nd controller in front of the small overhanging ledge in the middle of the map. With damage increased 500%, I was able to drive off that little ledge and shoot/kill him while I was airborne with zero troubles.

Twenty five kills using a Gungoose. Simple enough.

Combine Shook the Hornets Nest and Skeet Shooter. Set player traits to no shields, and damage increase 500%. Increase movement speed so you can move your dummy back to the mancannon quicker. On Bloodline hover in front of the mancannon exit in your hornet. Have your 2nd controller walk into it, and just start firing right into the arc of his path as he comes off the mancannon. Repeat 15 times to get half of your Hornet kills and your skeet shooter achievement, then wrap up Hornet kills.

Ten wins on Bloodline, and you don't even need a 2nd controller. Just start a match on Bloodline, then as soon as it starts hit options - end match immediately. Do this 10 times for the achievement.

Shoot the red glowing spot on the roof of the opponents' base and grab their flag while the waterfall is running. Simple enough.

  • Wetwork

Halo 2A MP: On Shrine in CTF, activate the enemy base waterfall and, before it stops, grab the flag.

    Wetwork

Custom game with a second controller, just hijack him 5 times. I'm so glad most of these don't need matchmaking so it won't affect how I play in ranked and social playlists. I hate going for miscellaneous achievements when I'm playing online PvP.

Another trio of truly obvious ones. Don't think too hard on these. They mean what they say.

Decorated warrior comes extremely easily. If you're getting double kills, headshot kills, etc this one is almost impossible to miss as you get medals for literally everything you do now, lol.

Put up your dukes is cumulative (just like the 25 Mongoose and 30 Hornet kills). So just play to play and sooner than you realize it you'll have your 25 melee kills done.

For Power Play, load up a regular match (don't do Juggernaught as it doesnt spawn) on Warlord and stand beside the cloak spawn. After picking it up 5 times in one match you will get the achievement. The description is misleading. If the game ends before it spawns 5 times you won't get it, even if you picked it up every time.

Cold as Ice: Halo 2: Anniversary MP: On Lockdown, kill an opponent with the hanging ice - On Lockdown, wait until someone is standing on the BR tower since it's closest to the hanging ice above it, positioned below the stalagtites/hanging ice. Shoot the hanging ice to drop it on them for a kill and the achievement.

Legend Slayer: Halo 2: Anniversary MP: Kill an opponent that has the Legendary Anniversary achievement. – This likely won’t come near launch unless you play against the kooks like myself that are going to run through all four campaigns right away. But eventually this should come without really trying. Once you kill someone that has the achievement for Legendary Anniversary (beating every level of Halo 2 on Legendary), this should pop. This can be done in customs against a friend or a dummy controller if you've slogged through Legendary with another profile on your Xbox.

Zealot appears to be bugged, as the description does not mention matchmaking, but I can confirm that the only way to make progress on your 10 wins is to play Halo 2 Anniversary matchmaking as an Elite and win 10 games. This may have been corrected in one of the many patches, but I can't confirm atm as I did it back when you only got credit for wins in matchmaking.

The following achievements are the only ones that specifically mention Matchmaking, meaning that for sure these have to be done in matchmade games. That said, their descriptions are very straight-forward.

Flaming Ninja Anniversary: Halo 2: Anniversary MP: Kill an opponent that has the Ninja Redux achievement in Anniversary matchmaking. – See the above. Once some folks have Ninja Redux this one should come pretty easily.

Roadkill Rampage - Seriously 343? 100 splatters specific to ONLY Halo 2 Anniversary matchmaking? Sheesh. Ok player A is going to be in a lobby by himself and searches the H2A rumble playlist. Using the party invite trick, he can bring people in party chat into a rumble match with him. Apparently this playlist has a pretty low population so it should be easy to get people in. Additionally, even though you can't search the playlist with more than 1 person in your lobby, the people you 'pull' into the match using the party invite trick can. Pick Stonetown or Bloodline and get to splattering with those vehicles! This is lightyears faster than the way I originally did it with the icecicles.

For Roadkill Rampage, you can go into Anniversary Matchmaking and pray people vote for Bloodline or Stonetown to get vehicle splatters, or Team Slayer, although it has a much larger map/game combination list and thus will see these two maps in H2A gametypes show up less frequently. Or, if you're struggling, you can use the boosting methods outlined on the cross-game/cumulative page and try to get two teams of 5 players matched up in H2A to boost the splatters. It's VERY difficult to get matched up to boost in that playlist though, so as a last resort I boosted them using the icecicle 'extermination' boosting method outlined in the boosting break-down on said page. Once you nab 100 splatters in Halo 2 Anniversary, you'll nab this achievement.

For Rock and Coil Hit Back, there are only 2 maps with potential Environmental kills. These are fusion coils on Stonetown and Lockout, and the hanging ice on Lockout. You'll want to play the Championship playlist since it only has 3 maps, leading to Lockout coming up more often. At the very beginning of each match, try to look across to the other team's spawn and shoot the ice above them right away. Frequently at the start of the match players haven't yet got their wits about them, so you might get some easy environmental kills this way. Worst case scenario you can once again boost this as outlined on the cross-game/cumulative page's boosting breakdown.

Each re-mastered map in H2: Anniversary MP has a a BLAST soda can hidden on it. A video showing all six locations is coming soon. Destroy all six for individual achievements and one ‘all’ achievement. You can do all of these in a customs game by yourself. Team Snipers is suggested for ease of aiming at them. When choosing the maps, just choose the base map not the Anniversary edition of the map (but within Halo 2 Anniversary, which is just the 6 remastered maps)

On Bloodline, head to Blue base. Facing out from the front of the base, turn 90 degrees to your right and head over to the two side-by-side rocks nearby. Stand between them and look directly across the canyon to a small crack/crevice in the cliffs on the other side. You should see a very tiny Blast can midway up. If you're having trouble finding it have no fear, for a video is near.

For the Lockdown can, head to the top of blue lift. Shoot the hanging ice above the center of the map (top middle), and look behind where it was hanging to a small cave with the can on the right-hand side of the cave.

For the Warlord can, face Yellow base from the top center of the map by the camouflage. Head straight into Yellow base where the flag spawns and look in the far right-hand corner of the flag area. Right behind a little piece of root/vine you'll see the soda can.

For the next one load up Zenith. Facing the small tower from the center area of the map, look over the ledge and midway down the support structure underneath it to find this Blast can.

On Shrine, head to the Carbine spawn on the side of the map. The base that doesn't have the wall behind it that is on the cliff edge has a temple across the valley from it. Look on the ledges on the left-hand side of the temple to find it. A more specific location can be seen in the upcoming video.

For the Stonetown can, head toward the base where you arm the bomb in one-bomb assault. Inside the base is a large box with a blue tarp and two smaller boxes on top of it. In between these two smaller boxes lies the can.

For destroying all six you'll get the cumulative one:

ODST map addition: Remnant

An additional soda can achievement was added with the new map addition to coincide with ODST's release for the collection. This can can be found on Remnant. Head to the shoreline next to the downed Pelican. Facing back toward the large building in the center of the map, turn about 90 degrees to your left. Look for a wet-looking grayish rock that almost looks like a large fungus to your left against the ledge overlooking the water. Stand on this, and look down into the water. There should be two rocks in the water with a gap between them, with the soda can located underwater in this gap. Shoot the can for the achievement. A video guide is coming soon.

For these two achievements, you just need to play on 8 different maps, and play four unique game types in CLASSIC multiplayer maps (not anniversary). Just go into customs and start a game on a map then end the game as soon as it starts. Do this for 4 modes and 8 different maps on (make sure to use Classic maps, not H2A maps) to knock these out.
