The Guinness World Records (GWR) on Tuesday announced Nigerian chef, Hilda Baci as the new record holder for the longest cooking time by an individual.
The GWR in a statement on its website, said, “Following a thorough review of all the evidence, Guinness World Records can now confirm that Hilda Effiong Bassey, better known as Hilda Baci, has officially broken the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual), with a time of 93 hours 11 minutes.”
The Nigerian chef from Akwa Ibom ascended to the World stage in May after deciding to break the previous record of 87 hours 45 minutes set by Lata Tondon (India) in 2019.

“The 26-year-old Nigerian chef began on Thursday, May 11 and continued through Monday, May 15th, cooking over 100 pots of food during her four-day kitchen stint,” GWR stated.
“Hilda attempted to set a record of 100 hours, but nearly seven hours were deducted from her final total because she took an extra minute for one of her rest breaks early in the attempt.

“As with all ‘longest marathon’ records, the participant is allowed a five-minute rest break for every hour of continuous activity. These rest breaks might add up if not taken. During the endeavour, they were the only times Hilda could use the loo or sleep,” they said.
The statement also noted that the outpouring of love for Hilda from famous Nigerians, celebrities, and other admirers caused the website to break down twice owing to high traffic.
