Isiah Thomas won his rings in 1989 and 1990 in back-to-back Championship titles. The Pistons beat the Los Angeles Lakers 0-4 in the 1989 Finals and then won the 1990 Finals 1-4 over the Portland Trail Blazers. Isiah was named Finals MVP in the latter.
On this day in 1988, Isiah Thomas severely sprained his ankle in Game 6 of the NBA Finals vs. the Lakers.

1989: Finals Avenged, First Championship Lifted
Following the 1988 Finals heartbreak, Isiah and Co made it to the NBA Finals once again the next season. Inspired by their narrow defeat in the prior Final, the Pistons unleashed total domination onto the courts and swept the series 0-4. Isiah put up a stellar display, averaging 21.3 points, 7.3 assists and 2.5 rebounds to lift his first NBA title.

1990: Back-to-Back Championships, Finals MVP
In the 1989-1990 season, the Detroit Pistons made it through the regular season and the playoffs, ultimately to the Finals. It was the third consecutive Finals appearance for the Pistons since 1988. The Detroit Pistons faced the Portland Trail Blazers in the 1990 Finals which they won 1-4 in five games. Isiah Thomas won the Finals MVP averaging 27.6 points, 7.0 assists and 5.2 rebounds in the series.
