You can have bread with beverages, eggs, beans porridge, moi-moi, akara, ewa agoyin, butter, mayonnaise, soft drinks, fresh juice, avocado etc. Some even combine bread with noodles or pap. Yuck! Baking bread is pretty straightforward. You don’t need sophisticated equipment to turn out that soft, white, slightly chewy and sweet loaf of bread.

Utensils for baking homemade bread
- Baking bowl
- Oven or stove and a bottomless pot
- Flat board or clean table
- Rolling board
- Three Bowls (one big and two small bowls)
- Napkins
If you don’t have an oven, you can place a deep pot on the stove. Turn a flat stainless plate upside down and place it inside the pot. Pre-heat for 10 minutes, and place your baking pan with the dough on top of the stainless plate to bake on low heat.
Another method is to pour white sand inside the deep pot. Pre-heat for 10 minutes on the stove, and place your pan with dough to bake on low heat.

How to make bread without yeast
Bread without yeast is not as popular as the regular bread with yeast in Nigeria, but it can come in handy, especially during an emergency. If what stops you from making your bread is a lack of yeast, we’re here to help. There are countless options to make bread without yeast.

- 3 cups of flour
- 1.5 tablespoons of baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 1.25 cups of warm milk or water
- Oil
- 1/5 cup of sugar (optional)
How to make bread rolls
Bread rolls are soft, buttery, fluffy and sweet. Just like regular bread, they are straightforward to make. You need the following ingredients:
- 4 cups of flour
- Four tablespoons of melted butter
- One tablespoon of yeast
- Three eggs
- One teaspoon of salt
- 1 cup of warm milk
- 1/5 cup of sugar

- One small package of active dry yeast
- One egg (optional)

How to make bread:
- Pour the yeast into a small bowl and add enough warm water to dissolve. Sprinkle a little bit of sugar on top of the dissolved yeast. Set the mixture aside to rise and foam for 4-6 minutes to ensure that the yeast is good. A bad yeast will produce lousy bread.
- Add butter to another small bowl and place in hot water to melt.
- Mix the dry ingredients – flour, sugar, salt and Vitamin C into the big bowl. Ensure your bowl is deep to allow proper mixing.
- Create a deep hole in the mixed dry ingredient. Break the egg inside and add milk and melted butter.
- Return to the yeast and mix before adding with the other ingredients.
- Add a little water and whisk everything together with the mixer. You can use your hands if you don’t have one.
- You can add more flour or water to achieve the desired effect. Your dough should be smooth, soft and elastic.
- Cover the dough and leave it to rise in a warm place for about 60-90 minutes.
- Transfer the dough to the flat board or clean table and knead until it is smooth and stretchy without breaking.
- Divide and form the dough into two balls.
- Grease two baking pans with melted butter and place the balls inside.
- Cover them with bigger bowls and allow them to rise for another 60 minutes.
- Pre-heat your oven for 14-16 minutes using the highest temperature. Then place the pans with the dough in the oven and bake for about 30 minutes.
How to make bread without yeast:
- Mix the dry ingredients – flour, baking powder, salt and sugar (optional) in a bowl
- Create a hole in the mixture, add the warm milk or water and oil, and mix everything until they form into a dough.
- Place dough on a floured flat board or clean table and knead it into a round shape.
- Line a parchment paper on your baking pan and add the moulded dough to it.
- Pre-heat your oven or stove for 14 minutes and place the pan with the dough.
- Allow it to bake for about 30 minutes on medium heat until golden brown.
- Take out the bread from the oven or stove, cool for a few minutes and enjoy.
How to make bread rolls:
- Pour the yeast into a small bowl and add enough warm water to dissolve. Sprinkle a little bit of sugar on top of the dissolved yeast. Set the mixture aside to rise and foam for 4-6 minutes.
- In another bowl, whisk two eggs and melted butter and set aside.
- Mix the flour, salt and sugar in a big bowl. Create a hole in the mixture and add the proofed yeast, egg and butter mixture inside.
- Mix everything until a soft dough is formed.
- Transfer the dough to a flat board or table and knead for about 10 minutes until it is soft, smooth and elastic.
- Transfer the dough into another greased bowl. It will prevent the dough from sticking to the bowl.
- Cover the bowl and leave it to rise in a warm place for about an hour to double in size.
- Deflate the dough and transfer it to a floured flat board or table. Divide the dough into 16 equal pieces and form round balls into baking sheets at least two inches apart.
- Cover the dough again and let it rise for about 30 minutes to double in size.
- Whisk an egg with a tablespoon of water to make the egg wash. Brush the surface of the dough with the egg wash.
- Pre-heat the oven or stove for about 10 minutes and bake the dough until golden brown.
- Remove the bread rolls from the oven or stove and rub the surface with butter while it is still hot.
- Leave to cool for a few minutes and enjoy with any beverage of your choice.
