“I am a bit higher up now”- Sam Burns takes Rory McIlroy’s approach after the 150th Open Championship

Superstar PGA Tour member Sam Burns appears to have adopted Rory McIlroy’s strategy following the 150th OpenChampionship. Northern Irishman McIlroy, 33, acknowledged that following that tragic Sunday at St. Andrews, he went two weeks without eating a vegetable or going to the gym.

At the FedEx St. Jude Invitational, the FedEx Cup Playoffs began, and it seemed to make McIlroy a little bit slow. McIlroy was eight shots back of the leader. Regarding Burns, he acknowledged that during his brief vacation after completing T-42 in Scotland, he gained as much as eight pounds in eight days.

However, it doesn’t seem as though that much affected his golf. He spent his time away travelling to Greece with his close friend Scottie Scheffler. However, the Masters champion seems to have returned to golf with a little bit of a bad attitude. After his “incident” with the most recent well-known player who intended to switch teams to LIV Golf, Scheffler also sparked a social media uproar. Burns also spent his free time attending the weddings of his close friends.

Whoever wins the FedEx Cup and receives a massive check for $18 million will undoubtedly be the topic of conversation throughout the postseason, either Scheffler or Cameron Smith, who all but established his future course following his first round in Memphis. But don’t discount Burns. His outstanding season, in which he has won twice, has already assured him a starting spot in the Tour Championship. In March, he successfully defended his Valspar Championship crown, and in May, he won the Charles Schwab Challenge for the fourth time on the PGA Tour.

“Yeah, I think being a little bit higher up now in the FedExCup, securing a position in Atlanta definitely allows me a little bit more flexibility in this first event simply in the sense that I have some security in the year-long competition,” he said in response to a question from the media.
