Thus, in a tell-all interview with Interview Magazine, the star revealed a lot about his life including the time, he almost flushed his successful celebrity career down the toilet.

Tom Cruise’s love for women saved his Hollywood career

It is common knowledge that when Tom Cruise is not appearing in films or performing his own stunts, he goes into an intense ‘ardent believer in Scientology’ mode. But turns out that before Cruise took part in the Church of Scientology and before he found stardom as an actor, it was reported that he was passionate about the Catholic Church and had the ambition to become a Catholic priest.

Although many refused to believe so, it was true, the star himself confirmed the fact while having a chat with Interview Magazine, and stated why it did not end up happening. When asked about how close was he to considering the alternate career path that could have changed everything that would end up happening to him eventually, he said,

 “Not too close. I was there for one school session. I remember we used to sneak out of the school on weekends and go this girl’s house in town, sit around, talk and play Spin the Bottle. I just realized I loved women too much to give that up.”

Turns out his rebellious teenage self saved him big time, his crazy night outs made him realize he was not ready to give the life he had, and soon ended up moving to New York to pursue acting full-time. Although fortunately, things turned out great in the end, many fans are still shaken by the idea that they could have been robbed of their favorite Tom Cruise movies.

What made Tom Cruise move to New York to become an actor?

He was only 18 years of age when he moved to the big apple in the hopes to become a star. Although this decision would end up changing the trajectory of his entire life, launching him into a stardom, only few can dream of, people still wonder what made him choose acting as his profession. The megastar confessed, his participation in his high school musical, Guys and Dolls, played a significant role in this.

He claimed the moving repose of the people after his performance made him realize, he was changing lives, and thus was sure he wanted to continue doing this his entire life. He said,

“So the first time I did the play, all the guys came and saw it and said, “Whoa, we didn’t know that you could do that.” I felt good about it. Not just the fact that they saw it, but I felt good about it in my heart. My mother taught creative drama, so I’d always enjoyed it. I told my parents I was going to New York. I never really planned on going to college anyway. I had saved money and I was going to go to Europe and find the “big picture” there.”

And therefore his journey began, after moving to New York, he worked odd jobs to make ends meet and devoted the majority time to perfecting his craft. After getting refused almost a thousand times, he finally landed the audition for Endless Love in 1981, and the rest as people know of it is history. Although the film did not make quite a stir, it helped him find a footing in the very competitive land of Hollywood, and slowly and steadily with time, he became one of the greatest, there ever is.
