“If this turns into Fast and Furious…”: $3.5B Tom Cruise Franchise Announces More Movies to Milk Box Office, Fans Convinced an Incoming Cringe-Fest

Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt changed the way action scenes were seen forever. His Mission: Impossible franchise has grossed $3.5 billion over the course of 6 films till now. Of course, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Parts 1 and 2 are yet to be released, so that number is all set to climb higher.

However, a new piece of information has come to light. It looks like the 7th and 8th films in this action franchise are not the last ones. So fans should rejoice, right? That doesn’t seem to be the dominant feeling as people are worried that the hit franchise is going to turn out like the Fast and Furious one

Many fans of the Mission Impossible franchise thought that the franchise was going to end with Dead Reckoning Parts 1 and 2. After all, eight films in an action thriller franchise seem to be enough. Also, from the look of it, the upcoming two films are all set to conclude the storyline of Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt at least. However, that’s not the reality of it.

Fandango has reported Christopher McQuarrie saying that Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Parts 1 and 2 are not the end of the franchise. In fact, the writer and director already has ideas regarding what’s going to happen next. McQuarrie has collaborated with Tom Cruise on Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and Fallout too.

So fans should be brimming with excitement right? That’s not the general sentiment among the online public.

The Mission: Impossible franchise is undoubtedly beloved. In each and every film, Tom Cruise has brought new and improved never-before-seen action. However, many fans think it’s better to quit while being ahead rather than turn it into a franchise like Fast and Furious. It’s clear that the racing franchise is getting milked beyond its scope and is now the subject of memes and unending criticism. As such, they think having more films to add to the franchise is a poor move.

If they believe they can top what came before, then I’m game. As long as it does not become the fast and furious franchise.

pls dont make this the next fast & furious

As such, it looks like fans want to save Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible franchise from getting laughed out of theaters in the long run. But will the actor and Christopher McQuarrie take their feelings into account? Probably not because of how much money the films have minted at the box office till now.

As such, it looks almost inevitable that movies will be added to the action franchise. Now, whether these take the franchise to new heights or bury it in the earth, remains to be seen.

Mission: Impossible films are all streaming on Paramount+.
