Indian Trail residents express concern about proposed hotel – WSOC TV

INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. — Indian Trail residents had the opportunity to voice their concerns Monday night about a proposed hotel development off Monroe Road.

Before the meeting, Channel 9 spoke to some residents who have concerns about traffic.

“The traffic is already bad enough,” said Harvey Lucore, who has lived in Indian Trail for more than two years.

Residents are also worried about whether infrastructure in Sun Valley Commons can support more development after they say all of the businesses there were built within the last few years.

“To keep adding to it is going to make it bigger and bigger and worse and worse,” Lucore said.

Union County-based developer Dennis Moser wants to build a five-story hotel in Sun Valley Commons, just down the street from Sun Valley High School.

“It just keeps getting more and more busy,” Kristi Fail said. “With the schools right here it just really worries you the more and more people that are going to be here.”

The Moser Group already owns the land, but Indian Trail’s City Council would have to change an ordinance to allow for a hotel to be built. There is no word on what hotel chain or name it would be because that’s part of the next step when the developer submits an actual project proposal.

“I don’t really know why they’d want a hotel here. There’s not many residents or people or events going on here to have a hotel,” nearby resident Eric Fox said.

Eyewitness News anchor Liz Foster reached out to Moser on Monday morning and had not heard back by the end of the day.

Indian Trail’s City Council could make a decision at its next meeting, set for June 14.
