Hollywood stars are often required to shoot s*x scenes in movies in order to portray a specific storyline, however, sometimes the experience gets quite overwhelming, especially for female celebrities.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, female stars were often labeled as a s*x symbol, and in most cases, the stars hated the label. That major problem in Hollywood was slowly denormalized, however, some elements of it can still be felt today. Actress Keira Knightley once opened up about her terrible experience of shooting s*x scenes, swearing that she would never do anything like that ever again, however, she would make an exception for films that are directed by women.
Keira Knightley will never film intimate scenes in films directed by men
In January 2021, actress Keira Knightley appeared on the Chanel Connects podcast and explained that she will only film s*x scenes in movies that are directed by women,
“If I was making a story that was about that journey of motherhood and body acceptance, I feel like, I’m sorry, but that would have to be with a female film-maker. I don’t have an absolute ban, but I kind of do with men. I don’t want it to be those horrible s*x scenes where you’re all greased up and everybody is grunting. I’m not interested in doing that.”
The 38-year-old actress has established herself as one of the best actresses in the industry with iconic performances in movies like The Imitation Game (2014), Colette (2018), Pride & Prejudice (2005), Misbehaviour (2020), and Bend It Like Beckham (2002).
The actress explained that she gets uncomfortable
Knightley further explained that she gets uncomfortable now when she is asked to film s*x scenes, especially around the male crew,
“I feel very uncomfortable now trying to portray the male gaze. Saying that, there’s times where I go, ‘Yeah, I completely see where this s*x would be really good in this film and you basically just need somebody to look hot.’ So therefore you can use somebody else, because I’m too vain and the body has had two children now and I’d just rather not stand in front of a group of men naked.”
The actress shares two daughters with her husband James Righton. The couple first became parents in 2015 with the birth of daughter Edie. In 2019, they welcomed their second child, Delilah.
