“It would be called…”: Bethesda Boss Reveals Original Space RPG Idea Pitch That Became Starfield

Starfield is all set to launch globally in 5 days, while those who pre-ordered the Premium Edition or Constellation Edition of the game can start playing the game starting today, September 1st. The game is considered Bethesda’s masterpiece and is quite a massive game both figuratively and literally, as players will be able to explore the never-ending cosmos in the game that also requires a massive spec for a smooth performance. Ahead of the release, Game Director Todd Howard has penned down an internal letter addressing the entire team behind Bethesda’s epic.

The game’s gone live in a lot of regions already with those eligible for early access already having started the game, and in another few hours, it should go Live globally too. As the game goes Live for early access today, Howard also shared how he had revealed his plans for a new title from Bethesda to Robert Altman, the late CEO of ZeniMax.

Starfield Early Access Goes Live, First Impressions Promise Well-Polished Game

Starfield has gone Live for those with early access, and the first impressions have shattered all the negativity surrounding the game, as the game looks “super polished”. One of the gamers shared their early impressions after having played the game on Series S:

As seen above, the game seems to run without any noticeable bugs or glitches, as it looks like a game that’s shipped as a finished product, which is quite unlike a Bethesda release. Starfield is locked to 30fps on the two consoles, Series X which reaches 4K resolution, and Series S which reaches a max of 2K resolution. Starfield got its first look last year disappointing gamers with the visuals looking rather poor, which led to the game being pushed further by a year. The visuals in the first official trailer and all the glimpses shown last month at Gamescom were praised by the gaming community as looking far more crisp and clear.

In another 5 days, on the 6th of September, the rest of the gamers who have pre-ordered the game will get to start their adventure. There should be more and more reviews coming out once everyone gets a hands-on experience.

Todd Howard has reached out to his team with a wholesome letter looking back at the moment when he pitched the game to the then-CEO of Bethesda’s parent company ZeniMax Media, the Late Robert Altman. Howard recollected how Altman was left worried when he pitched the idea for a brand-new title from Bethesda Game Studios that’s based in outer space, but not another Fallout or Skyrim game. Howard mentioned his exact words were, “You would explore the galaxy in ways only video games can do. And it would be called – Starfield.”, to which Altman had replied saying it sounded fantastic.

Howard recollected how the studio was also working on a number of other games like working on Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, Fallout 4, Fallout Shelter, Fallout 76, and Skyrim VR, making the path to Starfield not as direct and easy as he would have wanted. Bethesda also had to deal with the challenges during the pandemic and the passing of Robert Altman as well, who was a firm believer in the team regardless of the circumstances.

Howard also went on to acknowledge the unwavering support shown by Xbox Head, Phil Spencer, ever since Bethesda became part of the Xbox Game Studios. Howard mentioned the partnership with Xbox had allowed them to “flourish and prosper”, and that he could not imagine a better place to create games.

Howard concluded by thanking the gamers to whom he has now passed the game and mentioned gamers will start receiving the game with Early Access on the 1st of September, with special thanks to gamers in New Zealand who can start enjoying the game even earlier, given the time zone.
