Tragedy struck the ice hockey community of Wisconsin this week as 18-year-old standout goalie Jasmine Petersen of the University of Wisconsin - River Falls (UWRF) women's hockey team passed away unexpectedly on November 3rd, 2023. Petersen took her own life after a private struggle with depression. Her sudden death has devastated family, friends, teammates and coaches.
A Passionate Hockey Player
Jasmine Petersen had a tremendous passion for hockey and goaltending. She stood out as the top goalie in the region and was known for bringing unmatched skill and determination to the position. Petersen was dedicated to improving her game.
In addition to playing at UWRF, the high school graduate also coached a youth boys' team to share her love of hockey with the next generation. Her natural talent and devotion to the sport were clear anytime she hit the ice.
A Key Member of the Team
Petersen's teammates and coaches regarded her as an invaluable member of the UWRF women's hockey program. She was unmatched in goalie skills but also brought loyalty, encouragement and spirit to the team dynamic.
