Sgt. Jason Liaban of the Maywood Police Department committed suicide this morning at Hackensack University Medical Center. Our condolences to his family.
Multiple sources told Daily Voice that Liaban was in crisis when a Maywood police captain he trusted took him to the emergency room.
A source said his service weapon was taken when he went into a toilet near the ER entrance to change.
The source said Liaban was given privacy because he came in voluntarily and cooperated.
Gunshot followed.
Many admired and loved the decorated 16-year veteran.
"He was a really good guy," a close friend told Daily Voice. "He was literally the model father, cop, and family guy...... We're shocked and sad."
"You won't find a better guy, one who was willing to do anything for you," a former colleague said. "He was humble." He respected everyone, never spoke ill of anyone."

I always liked seeing you. The best part of my day was watching you go too light on your man-makers and hearing "I'll go heavier next time" before we both laughed because we knew you wouldn't.
