Jim Carrey Says He Won't Promote Kick-Ass 2 Because of Sandy Hook. What Do You Make of His Stance?

My reaction personally, is: OK, but say more. To leave it at this might be a little disingenuous. As Carrey himself acknowledges, there are hundreds of people with a stake in this movie's success. I think he needs to distinguish whether he's coming out against all violence in movies, or if there's something about Kick-Ass specifically that turns his stomach in light of recent events. (I will admit that I was always uncomfortable with this scene from the original.) He will of course have to address the money thing, no matter how he decides to handle it.

But I think the most important reason for Carrey to elaborate is: By invoking Sandy Hook in a tweet that went out to 10 million+ followers—and prompted coverage in outlets like ours right here—he's linked himself to it in a way that I believe comes with a little responsibility. Hopefully, his words on Kick-Ass 2 are a prelude to him acting on the change of heart that inspired the denouncement. In other words, don't stop at bowing out of something your gut tells you is bad. Actually do something good.

That's my two cents—but what do you make of Carrey's stand?
