Kunle Afolayan was born on September 30, 1975, into the family of Mr. and Mrs. Adeyemi Josiah Afolayan in Ebute-Metta, Lagos State, Nigeria. His father is a well-known film producer and director (Ade-Love) who worked in the travelling theatre during the 20th century.
He is a native of the Yoruba ethnic group known as the Igbomina, Kwara State. Because of his father’s profession, Kunle Afolayan developed a love for movies. He actively participates whenever his father travels to perform in Nigerian cities and villages.
His father’s occupation had a significant impact on him. After watching the Tade Ogidan-produced film Hostage, in which Tope Idowu’s performance was an inspiration, he discovered a deep love for acting and filmmaking.
The three well-known siblings of Kunle Afolayan, Moji, Gabriel, and Aremu, are all very involved in media, acting in movies, singing, and other endeavours. They have all been raised properly to appreciate and uphold Yoruba culture and traditional values.

Kunle Afolayan is the founder of the Afefeyeye restaurant and bar. It was founded in September 2021. The restaurant serves both local and intercontinental dishes alongside a standard bar. It is located in Ikeja, Lagos.
