LAWMA boss uncovers shady things cart pushers do

Ibrahim Odumboni, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has exposed the heinous things cart pushers do in the state.

He accused the cart pushers of hiding weapons such as knives and machetes with which they attack unsuspecting persons when they get the opportunity.

Odumboni said this after 400 carts were confiscated on Monday by the agency.

“Criminal elements have hidden under this guise to carry out heinous crimes. If there are no carts to push, they will get other jobs.

“They pose as much threat to the environment as to the security of the citizens,” he said.

He said state authorities will not permit any person or group to sabotage ongoing efforts to make the state environmentally better and liveable.

“Cart pushers are about the biggest threat to our effort at attaining environmental sustainability”, he said.

According to Odumboni, the pushers violate the environmental laws of the state by engaging in the indiscriminate dumping of waste.

Reiterating the ban on cart pushing in the state, Odumboni said the clampdown will continue to help consolidate gains made in sustaining the environment.

He encouraged cart pushers to register with LAWMA, and undergo training as pickers and off-takers of recyclables.

He called on residents to support the government’s effort for a cleaner Lagos.
