Naptown Real Rollers move event after skating rink threat

Members of Naptown Real Rollers looked forward their annual "Roll for Soul" event last weekend but Skateland Indy management and security made a mutual decision to cancel the event.

INDIANAPOLIS (WTHR) – The Naptown Real Rollers call themselves a skate club dedicated to love, fellowship, community, and respect.

Members looked forward to sharing all of that at the "Roll for Soul" event last weekend but Skateland Indy management and security made a mutual decision to cancel the event.

"There was a threat that had come through from Ohio that some individuals from Ohio was going to come down and shoot up the event, or start shooting," said Lowell Harris, Naptown Real Rollers President and CEO.

Skateland Indy management says that the Naptown Real Rollers make up some of their most faithful customers.

The 10th annual "Roll for Soul" was to be an all-weekend, three night event. Everything started just fine on Friday night. Then the threat came Saturday.

The Naptown Real Rollers think the threat was just a prank so they scrambled to move the event to Western Skateland in Bloomington.

"Another reason why I don't think the threat was real is we posted the event that was being moved to a different skating rink," said Harris. "The event went off without a hitch with absolutely no security needed."

Naptown Real Rollers had paid for eight police officers to provide security at Skateland Indy even before the threat.
