To some it's a delicacy, and to others it's a culinary disgrace.
But for better or worse, Spam has been with us for some eight decades now.
There's now a new museum that celebrates all things pink and processed — Spam.
The Spam Museum is a slice of Americana in Austin, Minn. It was housed at one location in the town for nearly 15 years, but now has a new home near the town's Main Street.
Made in Austin, for nearly 80 years Spam has fueled everyone from our troops fighting overseas, to our families around the dinner table.
Spam is made of six very simple ingredients — pork, water, salt, sugar, sodium nitrate and potato starch. That's it.
But it's up to you what to do with it.
Spam musubi, perhaps? Spam oriental bites? Spam cheese cake?
It's now now sold in more than 40 countries.
"We're spamming the globe is what we like to say here in Austin, Minnesota," said Jim Snee, president and chief operating officer of Hormel Foods.
British funny guys "Monty Python" immortalized the stuff.
The "Spam" song, with its endless repetition, even morphed into Spam that now clogs your inbox
Back at the museum "Spambassadors" hand out samples to the faithful.
It's proof that this canned pork product is no flash in the pan.
