"I know Rays fans will not like this deal because of their history of trading other star players, but it's a good deal for Tampa Bay," 10 Tampa Bay sports director Evan Closky said. "Tyler Glasnow was due to be a free agent next season and there was no way the Rays were going to be able to resign him. So getting a former Top-100 pitching prospect, as well as a contact hitter who can play all three outfield positions, is a solid return. Pepiot and Deluca will play with the Rays extensively in 2024. These are not guys who you won't see in quite a while like the Blake Snell deal."
Pepiot has played with Los Angeles the last two seasons posting a 2.76 ERA. Tampa Bay has five years of control before he reaches free agency. Deluca made his MLB debut in 2023. He is a strong contract hitter and can play all three outfield positions.
