Roberto De Zerbi says Mykhailo Mudryk can become Premier League star despite Chelsea struggles

Mykhailo Mudryk has been tipped to excel in the Premier League by his former Shakhtar Donetsk boss Roberto De Zerbi.

The 22-year-old signed for Chelsea in the January transfer window, but has found times tough in English football so far.

Mudryk has recorded just one assist for the Blues and is yet to find the back of the net for the club.

His form in England is a complete contrast to the numbers he racked up at Donetsk, having scored ten goals and assisted eight others.

Despite his woes, Brighton boss De Zerbi is fully aware of his capabilities, and believes he will eventually improve at Chelsea.

Speaking exclusively to talkSPORT, he said: "Mudryk is a top player and I think for him, it's difficult to start in another country, in another team.

"Everyone knows the situation of Chelsea this year, it's very difficult especially for a young player, for a young guy.

"But, he has the quality to become a star in the Premier League."

Mudryk played under the management of De Zerbi last season, scoring two and assisting nine goals for the club.

De Zerbi left the club due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, but said in December that the winger would win the Ballon d'Or.

The duo will be reunited this weekend as Chelsea host Brighton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon, with both sides having very different aims for the rest of the season.

The Blues, under interim boss and club legend Frank Lampard, sit 11th in the table, with a top four finish now surely out of the question.

Brighton on the other hand are seventh and stand a very good chance of qualifying for Europe for the first time in their history.

Mudryk will be keen to prove his worth at Chelsea soon, and a match against his former boss could be the perfect opportunity to do so.
