Original Post: Modern Family, as its name suggests, has always been ahead of the mainstream TV curve in terms of representation. It features a married gay couple on a family-friendly sitcom on a major cable network, which you'd think in 2017 wouldn't be noteworthy, but hey, here we are. And now, according to Sarah Hyland, another character may be ready to come out: the eldest Dunphy daughter, the irrepressible Haley. Hyland, who has played Haley for nine seasons, just told fans that her character is indeed bisexual.
Twitter user @poiisonpam, who in their bio identifies as bisexual, tweeted "haley dunphy is bisexual ! #oneofus #oneofus" and then quoted that tweet tagging Sarah, writing, "actually, @Sarah_Hyland please confirm ??" Sure enough, Hyland quoted that tweet with a confirmation, writing, "I don't know what the writers would say? But I confirm."
The tweet was immediately met with positive responses, many from bisexual fans who felt seen and proud. Summing up the tone of the news, @aestheticlaniii wrote, "EVER SINCE I REALIZED I WAS BISEXUAL I GOT BI VIBES FROM HALEY PUT IT IN THE SHOWWWWWWW"
