Mysterious Black Dude meets with Jake, who gives him a hard time because he failed his mission of coming between Olitz. Captain Goose Down Pillow Lips manages to redeem himself by saying that Cy hired Charlie to follow him around. MBD instructs Jake to bring Charlie in, but leave Cy alone. MBD wants to take care of Mr. Beene. Uh-oh.
Back at the WH, Vice President Sally Langston is extra smug with Cy regarding Fitz's cheating scandal, which leads us to OPA. They think she might be the mole, so they start investigating while Harrison inquires about Liv's next move re: Fitz. She's being coy. Hey, Liv, you do realize that what Mellie did was the equivalent of saying, "Meet me on the tetherball court at 3 P.M.," and you're playing cute like you're making a Amazon.com wish list to send to your mom for this upcoming Christmas. Your situation is not cute! It is busted like a vase at the end of a teenage house party. Get your head in the game. Instead, she tells Harrison not to worry. He reminds her the White House doesn't have her back, and people will find out she's the mistress. Ignoring this, she tells him to focus on Sally.
During another press conference, James presses Cy for more information about the affair. Afterward, they fight. James says this interview with Mellie was his lucky break the same way that Fitz running for governor was Cy's, so he shouldn't be mad that he continued with the interview. Cy starts to laugh the way I do when I look at my checking account and see that buying a secret Santa gift for a co-worker I don't even like resulted in an overdraft fee. I mean, it's just so ridic that I can't even be mad:
Real quick, can we discuss Cy's behavior during this argument? Sure, being the kind of journalist that James is may not be as important as being Chief of Staff, but Cy doesn't have to be a Summer's Eve a.k.a a douche about it. Telling James that the only reason he got the job is because Mellie planned it this way: Remove 10 percent of his confidence. Telling him he's not as good looking as Anderson Cooper: Lop off another 23 percent of self-esteem. Telling him he's not qualified to be an on-camera reporter: trifling. Mastercard. Sorry, I get carried away sometimes, but the point is that Cy was way harsh and made his boo cry. I really hope James demands a divorce, so he can find some happy elsewhere.
Huck, with the approval of Olivia, hacks into Sally's email and discovers that the time the Defiance files were being accessed via her WH account was while she was at a State of the Union address. Thus, she ain't the mole. OPA is frustrated and decide to take a break. Everyone leaves the office, but David decides to stay, so he can watch Cy's latest press conference.
Meanwhile, Cy is being a busy bee as usual and meets with Liv. He begs her to not let Fitz give up the presidency because he doesn't believe this is what her man wants. Liv, remembering the Defiance debacle, refuses to meddle anymore and leaves. MBD shows up a few moments later to demand that Cy quit pussyfooting around and show Fitz the Jake/Olivia sex tape and to never contact Charlie again.
