I kinda thought the reason Selena Gomez is still single is because she is just really committed to the bit, but TikTok, apparently, has another theory.
The Only Murders in the Building actor was using TikTok’s “Why Am I Single?” filter, which flashed through a number of cards with different possible answers before landing on “You Have Bad Taste.” Gomez’s jaw dropped in (joking) dismay. She wrote in the caption, “Well that’s rude TikTok.”

The comments section lit up with jokes, solidarity, and a few strays for Justin Bieber. “Girl I feel you, me too 😂🤣,” one user wrote. “It’s okay bestie so do I 😭,” wrote another. One person commented, “Justin fighting for his life after reading the comments,” referring to Gomez’s most famous ex-boyfriend.
Gomez’s single status has become a running joke she makes about herself, and she regularly posts TikToks poking fun at her own bad luck on the dating scene. In June she posted a video of herself playfully shouting, “I’m single!” at a field of men playing soccer, and in March she joked on the platform, “My crush doesn’t even exist.” When she’s third-wheeling with besties Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz-Beckham, the gag is that they’re in a “throuple.”
At this point, if Selena Gomez ever does find the right guy, she’s gonna have to keep her relationship a secret. Being single is just part of her brand now.
