Star Citizen To Replace Character Reset With Repair Tool In Alpha 3.18

Star Citizen will receive a brand-new Character Repair Tool in Alpha 3.18, which will simply get rid of your character that is stuck in a certain situation and rebuild it in the same location, without sending you to respawn in another location and transfer the data for your ships and other items.

In the most recent episode of Star Citizen Live, the developers behind the Persistence Universe talked about Alpha 3.18 and features that players should look forward to in the next patch, including Character Repair Tool that will help you get rid of bugs with no need for a respawn at a medical station. During the latest Star Citizen live stream, the developers at Cloud Imperium Games explained the reasons why Character Reset Tool has become an issue for them while it might not seem like a big deal for players.

According to the developers, players mostly use Character Reset Tool when they are stuck with a bug or trapped in a situation that makes continuing the game impossible, so they use Character Reset to respawn and get rid of the situation, though it does come at the risk of losing potential progress or items. However, it creates a gigantic task for servers for transferring the data of the character and restoring the things that should be carried over.

In order to address this problem, Star Citizen will receive a brand-new Character Repair Tool in Alpha 3.18, which will simply get rid of your character that is stuck in a certain situation and rebuild it in the same location, without sending you to respawn in another location and transfer the data for your ships and other items.

Although it might sound pretty impressive, as it will help you get rid of unnecessary travels, it would be unable to fix any issues related to your ships. For example, when players face a bug with their ships, such as losing engines, disappearing from servers, or anything that simply shut down your ship, they can simply use the Character Reset Tool as a faster respawn method to get a new ship from a new station, but the Character Repair Tool will not help you with that, the developers admit.

That being said, this will open up an opportunity for developers to get to know the ship-related bugs and fix them. Previously, developers used to ignore most smaller ship bugs, as players could use Character Reset, but now the team is committed to fix ship bugs as soon as possible.

Alpha 3.18 was supposed to be released in 2022, but it was delayed until this month. Although it is now in the first wave of PTU testing, its release date has been pushed back again, and it won't be released this month anymore.
