American comedian Dave Chappelle was on Tuesday night attacked during a performance in Los Angeles, United States.
The 48-year-old comedian was performing at the Hollywood Bowl as part of the Netflix Is A Joke festival when a man reportedly armed with a knife and a gun assaulted him.
According to videos of the incident posted online, the man fled offstage where he was detained by security.
The attacker launched at Dave Chappelle just seconds after he joked about beefing up his security because of the uproar from his jokes on the trans community.
Available footage online shows the attacker receiving treatment from paramedics before he was taken to the hospital.
Chris Rock, who was also present, pounced on the event as an opportunity to crack a Will Smith joke after the attack on Chappelle.
Chris Rock himself had been smacked at the Oscars in March by Will Smith during a live broadcast.
