Watch Paddy Pimblett’s last opponent get knocked out cold following head clash at UFC Vegas 71

Jared Gordon has had another unlucky night in the UFC Octagon.

‘Flash’ was on the wrong end of a controversial unanimous decision when he squared off against British fight star Paddy Pimblett at UFC 282 in December.

With ‘The Baddy’ out injured and a rematch impossible right now, Gordon decided to take a fight with MMA veteran Bobby Green at UFC Vegas 71.

On Saturday night, the American was dropped and knocked out cold by Green late in round one but as he celebrated replays showed that the fight-ending sequence was started by an accidental clash of heads.

Green missed with a punch, but momentum carried his head into Gordon’s temple and dropped him to the floor. ‘King’ swarmed with a series of nasty ground strikes that put his opponent out cold and seemingly ended his two-fight losing streak.

However, after reviewing footage referee Keith Peterson declared the fight a no-contest due to the head clash, meaning neither man walked away from UFC Vegas 71 with a win or loss on their record.

In the build-up to his latest fight, Gordon claimed he would opt against a rematch with Pimblett if he beat Green and instead look to face someone in the lightweight top 15.

While a second fight with the popular Liverpudlian seems more likely after this result, Gordon could be matched up with Green or someone else before that happens.

Pimblett recently claimed that his injury may keep him sidelined for all of 2023.

He told Sky Sports: “I’m about to get surgery after my last fight.

“I hurt my foot in the first round, in like the first minute or two, threw a kick, hurt it. I felt it, but obviously, we crack on, we get through the fight.

“At the end of the fight, I can remember going back to the medical room just saying my foot is sore. Couldn’t get it looked at properly until I got home.

"Then, when the actual swelling went down – I didn’t know when to get surgery – it was a lot worse than we thought. I had to get inner and outer ligament surgery – well, reconstruction.

“So, it’s big. I’ll be lucky to fight this year.”

Pimblett is 4-0 as since joining the UFC in 2021 but many fight fans believe Gordon did enough to beat him and want to see the two men square off again.

With the 28-year-old injured and Gordon getting knocked out in his latest fight, it seems unlikely that a rematch between the pair will be booked in 2023.
