Where is Schitt’s Creek filmed?
Most of the interior scenes for the show were filmed on soundstages throughout Toronto, including Pinewood Toronto studios, Dufferin Gate Studios, and Revival Studios. But for outdoor scenes, constructed sets wouldn’t do. To capture the quaintness of small-town North America, the creators needed a real small town to film in.
After an extensive search throughout the United States and Canada, the creators ultimately settled on Goodwood, Ontario as their home base. According to CBC Canada, Levy chose the town because it looked like “a single intersection town” that had a “quaintness, timelessness, warmth and care for its people and properties.”

The show helped put Goodwood on the map
Some Good wood residents were initially skeptical about taking on the moniker Schitt’s Creek. However, they quickly came around once the cast and crew proved themselves to be polite, courteous, and supportive of the community. “It’s been an economic boost to Goodwood,” Dave Barton, mayor of Goodwood’s township of Uxbridge, told CBC Canada. “There’s a real sense of pride and we’re very sad to see it go.”
Since the show rose to international acclaim, the town has become a major tourist destination for fans, who sometimes call themselves the “Schittheads,” People from across the globe flock to locations like Bob’s Garage, Rose Apothecary, and the Cafe Tropical on Goodwood’s main intersection. All this interest has been a huge boon for local businesses like Annina’s Bakeshop, a local cafe on the same street as the three main Schitt’s Creek landmarks.
“It increased business but it also made it chaotic, especially this season,” Marco Cassano, owner of Annina’s, said in an interview. “But it was good for atmosphere, publicity, getting our name out there … So it was good all the way around for the economy”. Annina’s bakeshop was even the set caterer for seasons 1-5 of Schitt’s Creek and a favorite spot of the cast, who sometimes dropped in for a treat.

The motel recently went up for sale
Unlike other Schitt’s Creek landmarks, the motel that the Rose family initially bought as a joke isn’t in Goodwood. The real-life Rosebud Motel resides in the town of Mono, Canada. And it can be yours if you’ve got $1,600,000 to spare.
Known as the Hockley Motel, the property originally went on the market in March 2021. As of the time of writing, the motel is still for sale on Skyhub Canada. With an asking price of 2 million CAD (approximately $1.6 million USD), the motel has over 4,500 square feet of space and 6.7 acres of land adjacent to the Nottawasaga River.
In addition to the 10-unit motel, the Hockley Motel also has a 2-story manager’s suite and a separate cottage on the property. All that’s missing is the Rosebud motel sign! Listed as-is, the motel isn’t currently in an operational state. But hey, this makes it an awesome opportunity for an ambitious buyer to put their own spin on the property.
