Wilma still a hurricane as it races north

WESTON, Florida (AP) -- Hurricane Wilma is now a Category 1 storm. The National Hurricane Center in Miami says that at 5:00 pm, the hurricane's center was located about 205 miles south-southeast of Halifax, Nova Scotia. The Category 1 storm had top sustained winds near 85 miles-per-hour, and was moving incredibly fast for a tropical system -- 53 miles-per-hour to the northeast. It was merging with a front and losing its tropical characteristics over cooler Atlantic waters. The system weakened from a Category 2 earlier today and from a 3 yesterday when it went through Florida. Yet the mainland may still get one last brush with Wilma. It's expected to link up with an area of low pressure. It's raising fears of renewed flooding in Northeast areas already hit hard by eight consecutive days of rain earlier this month.
