Wisconsin question.
Posted by eolafan on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 7:22 AM Good morning all. Yesterday I drove from Rochester, MN to Eau Claire, WI via Wisconsin highways 25 and 85. While driving that route I seemed to parallel an abandoned rail line (mostly along Hwy. 85 as I recall) and was wondering if somebody can tell me what railroad that line belonged to. What puzzles me most is that the rails, switch stands, etc. are still very much in place...albeit deep in weeds and small trees...but still there, and I can't help but wonder why the hardware had not been taken up for scrap...unless the line has been "rail-banked" for possible future rail use. Any help in solving this puzzle in my mind is appreciated.Eolafan (a.k.a. Jim)
