Woman sets record after producing, donating 1,599 litres of breastmilk

An American woman, Elisabeth Anderson-Sierra, who kept producing breast milk after child birth, has received Guinness World Records (GWR) certification.

According to the Guinness World Records, the Aloha, Oregon, USA, native set the record for the largest donation of breast milk by an individual by donating 1,599.68 litres to a milk bank.

The mother has hyper lactation syndrome, a condition where breast milk overflow occurs because of increased milk production.

In a video shared on Twitter by GWR, Elisabeth said she wouldn’t wish the condition on her worst enemy. “It is not fun,” she said, adding that “nobody wants to live like this.”

She stated that there are medications to combat the prolactin hormones but they come with serious side effects.

Another option that she has explored with healthcare professionals is the possibility of a double mastectomy to remove all of the glandular tissue that is producing the breastmilk.

“By removing all of that tissue, my body would not be producing any more breastmilk.

“There will be no more milk ducts but there is the risk of additional breast tissue being developed because of the hormones that would still be going through my body,” Elisabeth said.

Elisabeth’s body can’t stop making milk.

She’s been constantly donating her breastmilk to babies who need it most.
